Galashiels Station Up For Adoption

Members of enthusiastic community groups met with representatives of ScotRail at Galashiels Station, on Thursday (3rd March) to discuss the possibility of adopting Galashiels Station.

The meeting under the leadership of the Borders Railway Community Partnership (BRCP) Steering Group, was attended by key representatives from Galashiels Community Council and Galashiels Rotary Club who are considering sharing the responsibility.

John Yellowlees, and Kevin McCartan from ScotRail met the group to outline the options available.

Adopt a station is an initiative created by ScotRail and is offered via the BRCP to ensure the on-going care of local stations along the Borders Railway working with key partners on a voluntary basis.

Carol Byers, Chair of the BRCP said “We are delighted to see such enthusiasm for looking after Galashiels Station and have had enquiries to adopt other stations along the line.”

The  BRCP has been set up to link with community groups in order to enhance interaction and maximize the economic potential and positive impact of the Borders Railway in the region.
